Perfect for holidaymakers who are a little cozy, this formula allows you to have the best of camping (being in the middle of nature) and glamor (feeling like at a hotel).
We didn’t invent anything, however: around 200 years BC, the Ottomans used ultra-sophisticated tents for the sultan’s travels.
In the 1990s, luxury camps were created to accommodate tourists on safaris in Africa. Sleeping in a “real” bed with “real” sheets, surrounded by antique furniture and Persian rugs? This is the experience then put forward. The idea appeals to the point that today it has been taken up almost everywhere on the planet. To dream a little, take a look at the sites of EcoCamp Patagonia (Argentina), Montana Ranch and Luxury Montana Resort (United States) and Longitude 131° (Australia).
The author of these lines had the chance to experience the formula in Elephant Hills , in the Thai jungle, in 2011. In addition to electricity, an adjacent bathroom with shower (and hot water!) and a work desk, the tent was covered with a roof. Wi-Fi was also accessible in a common room near the reception. The happiness of hearing the monkeys howl in the early morning, as if you were sleeping under the stars, from a bed worthy of those in the best hotels! An unforgettable mother-daughter experience.
Of course, who says luxury also says higher price. One night is often equivalent to the price of a hotel room. But beyond accommodation, it is an experience that is offered.
Where to do it?
The options are now many and varied. Here are some leads in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.
